Efficient FIFO Pallet Storage Solution for High-Volume Warehouses

A Gravity Rack System, also known as Pallet Flow Racking or Gravity Flow Rack, is a high-density storage solution designed to move pallets automatically using gravity. By installing roller tracks at a slight incline, pallets travel smoothly from the loading side to the picking side without powered equipment.
Operating on the First-In, First-Out (FIFO) principle, gravity rack systems are ideal for products with expiration dates or high inventory turnover. Compared with conventional pallet racking, they reduce forklift travel, improve picking efficiency, and maximize warehouse storage capacity.
Whether you're managing food products, beverages, pharmaceuticals, or cold storage inventory, gravity flow racking helps create a safer, faster, and more organized warehouse.

What Is a Gravity Rack System?
Unlike traditional pallet racking where forklifts access every pallet position, a Gravity Rack System uses inclined roller lanes to move pallets automatically through gravity.
When a pallet is loaded from the rear, it gently pushes the existing pallets forward. As pallets are removed from the picking side, the remaining pallets automatically advance to the front position without manual intervention.
Because products always leave the rack in the order they were stored, gravity racks are one of the most effective solutions for FIFO inventory management.

How Does a Gravity Rack System Work?
The roller tracks are typically installed with a 3°–5° slope. Forklifts place pallets onto the loading side, where gravity moves them toward the picking side.
To ensure safe and controlled pallet movement, the system may include:
- Speed controllers (dampers) to regulate pallet speed
- Pallet separators to reduce unloading pressure
- End stops for safe pallet positioning
- Heavy-duty rollers for smooth transportation
This mechanical design requires no electrical power, resulting in lower maintenance costs and reliable long-term operation.
Key Benefits of Gravity Rack Systems
True FIFO Inventory Rotation
Products stored first are always retrieved first, reducing the risk of expired or obsolete inventory.
Higher Warehouse Throughput
Separate loading and unloading aisles allow forklifts to work simultaneously without interfering with each other.
Reduced Forklift Travel
Operators no longer need to enter storage lanes, improving efficiency and reducing equipment wear.
Better Space Utilization
Gravity racks increase storage density while maintaining quick pallet accessibility.
Lower Operating Costs
Improved workflow reduces labor requirements and shortens pallet handling time.
Safer Warehouse Operations
Controlled pallet movement and fewer forklift interactions help create a safer working environment.
